What: Mother Dairy Dailycious presents Chapanutor, in association with Anandabazar Patrika

When: Sunday, September 4, 6pm

Where: GD Birla Sabhagar

What to expect: A storm not in a teacup, but over a teacup. Some very well-known argumentative Calcuttans - musician-writer Chandril Bhattacharya, poet Srijato, actresses Sudipta Chakraborty, Churni Ganguly, Chaiti Ghoshal, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Ushasie and musician Rupam Islam will indulge in some friendly banter over the contention that Bengal has lost its sheen since the time it ditched doodh cha and started consuming the fancier black tea or laal cha.

Moderated by musician-filmmaker Anindya Chattopadhyay, the evening promises to brew a lively debate over this beloved beverage. But why are Bengalis moving away from slurping on doodh cha, that sweet, milky concoction that is as much a culinary marker of Bengali culture as the rosogolla? Is it because liquor cha is more fashionable? Is it milk-induced "ombol", that feared yet familiar word in every Bengali household?

Not just these, the evening will simmer some more questions too - have Bengalis found shelter in cultures alien to them, the way they drink their tea being one of them? Has Bengal lost its softness (read tolerance) ever since the colour of its tea has turned black from orange? Well, whether you love your tea black or you love it orange, we're sure of one thing - this Sunday discussion is going to be red-hot!
