Siliguri, May 28: Like in the past, the students of Siliguri Boys’ High School have scored the highest marks in town in this year’s Madhyamik examinations conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE).
In the results declared today, Partha Pratim Chakraborty of the school has scored 789 (out of 800), while Sarosij Das and Kingshuk Dey have got 784 and 772 respectively, the authorities said.
“There is an overall improvement in the performance,” said headmaster Chandan Das. “As many as 44 students have marks higher than 700. Of the 272 examinees, 211 have got first-division, while 58 bagged second division. There is only one student who has got compartmental mark,” he added.
Das said the school owed its sustained performance to the teachers with dedication and team spirit.
Binta Bhattacharya has become the topper in Siliguri Girls’ High School with 773. The girl wants to study science in Plus-II and any branch of biology at degree level.
Of the 280 students, who appeared for the Madhyamik exams in the girls’ school, 239 have bagged first division, with 100 of them getting ‘star’ marks. According to the school authorities, 35 students have got more than 700. Teachers said all students in the school have passed.
Aparna Dhar, assistant headmistress of Sister Margaret (Nivedita) High School, said the performance of the co-educatIonal school was like the previous years. The highest mark in the school was scored by Mouktik Raha (756).
In Baradakanta Vidyapith, Ratul Ghosal is the topper with 730. “The success rate is 97 per cent,” said headmaster Tamal Chanda.
Like in the Higher Secondary, in Madhyamik too, Darjeeling district has the highest success rate in north Bengal. “The pass percentage of Darjeeling is 65.77,” said Debashis Dutta, assistant-secretary, WBBSE, north Bengal. “Of the 1,42,319 students in north Bengal, 61.07 per cent have passed,” said Dutta.
The pass rate of Jalpaiguri is 62.14 per cent. In Alipurduar, two girls belonging to the Toto tribe have created history of sorts by being the first ones to get first division in the Madhyamik examination. Sanchita and Sobha Toto, who studied in Alipurduar New Town Girls’ School, scored 538 and 482 respectively.
The headmistress, Pushpita Mitra, said both the girls had been in her school since Class V.
In Cooch Behar, the passing rate is 61.88 per cent. The percentages of students who have passed in North and South Dinajpur are 63.17 and 61.33 respectively. Dutta said Malda had a pass percentage of 62.16.
Girl kills herself
Pinki Malo (16), a student of Millanpalli High School in Islampur, committed suicide today after she failed in the Madhyamik. Pinki ended life by jumping in front of a moving train.
