Siliguri, Feb. 12: With Valentine’s Day round the corner, love is in the Siliguri air, though there are no signs of snow in the hills this time. Teenagers are making a beeline for the shops to buy gifts for their loved ones.
Juhi Agarwal of Archie’s Card Shop claimed brisk business ahead of Valentine’s Day. “Unlike last year, there is a huge demand for cards. But the most sold out gifts are pendants, lockets and chains. While stuffed toys are an all-time favourite, perfumes are also being moved off the shelves in large numbers,” she said.
Clubs are also ready with plans for the day. The party will begin at two in the afternoon and continue into the night at Devils, Siliguri’s first night club, which expects that teenagers, especially students, will form a large chunk of its customers.
Dress code for the partying teenagers will be a combination of red and black. The club has announced a special prize for the best man and woman dressed in red.
There will be prizes for the best couple and danseuse as well.
With regards to music, DJ Keerat said old romantic numbers in English and Hindi would be played with electro beats. “We will also churn out the music the crowd demands,” he said.
A wide range of food and drinks has been lined up to cheer up the customers. “We will unveil our secret bar mixes on the occasion,” Indranil, the barman, said. To name a few, Love Bite, Love Bullet and Darling’s Choice will be revving up the pairs.
To court those who are not boozy, there are Shirley Temple, generally associated with romantic couples and Ms Valentine, a double-layered drink, in the mocktail series, the barman said.
For those who do not want to be among the crowd, Blue Mountain Country Club has on offer a quiet evening by a pool in the backdrop of the Himalayas shimmering in the Kurseong lights.
And if anyone wants to sing an old John Denver for their beloved, they can go to the club’s karaoke bar.
