The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal by the Centre challenging Calcutta High Court’s stay on the summons served by the customs department on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Naroola.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose, however, asked the high court to expedite the hearing in the case. The customs had asked Naroola to appear before it in connection with an incident on March 6 wherein she had allegedly prevented officials from checking her bags at the Calcutta airport.
