Siliguri, Aug. 9: Reliance India Mobile (RIM) today launched its mobile service in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts. The service will reach Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur and Malda in the next few weeks. Sikkim is slated next.
The Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology used by RIM will, in addition to basic telephony, enable access to TV news channels, music, movies, games and data through the mobile handset, which will also act as a modem when connected to a desktop computer.
RIM officials said handsets and connections will be available at affordable prices starting from Rs 2,200.
