May 31: Stopped by a traffic cop in Bhutan who later sent them a friend request on Facebook or losing their way in Calcutta while looking for Mocambo - 12 bikers from Bangalore who rode all the way to Bhutan are taking home a host of memories.

The members of the Bangalore Riders Association of Triumph (BRAT) set off on the approximately 6000km journey on May 20. Sandeep C.B., an architect and leader of the group, said the idea was born over several cups of coffee on a weekend ride near Bangalore.

None of the riders had travelled to Bhutan before on a motorcycle. "Although we had covered Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, parts of Rajasthan and Delhi, we had never travelled down the east coast," said K. Kishore, who runs a restaurant in Bangalore and rode a Triumph Tiger XRX 800 adventure bike.

The group rode nine bikes, including two Triumph Tiger XRXs, two Triumph Street Twins, a Triumph Bonneville, a Kawasaki Ninja 650 and a KTM Duke 390. A service vehicle trailed them throughout the route.

"On the first day we rode around 950km till Visakhapatanam and had good roads all along," Sandeep said. From there to Siliguri via Puri and Durgapur and further ahead to Phuntsholing in three days.

The most treacherous stretch was from Siliguri to Calcutta through National Highway 34. "We had to dodge buses and ride over craters," said Kishore.

In Bhutan, the riders were impressed by the natural beauty and the warmth of its people. "One of our bikes had mistakenly overtaken a car from the left. A traffic policeman immediately stopped us. Initially he was stern but later asked us to visit his house the next time we were in Paro and also sent me a friend request," Sandeep said.

In Calcutta, the bikers visited Victoria Memorial, Howrah bridge, Vidyasagar Setu and Eden besides dining at Mocambo, relishing mishti doi and sandesh at Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick. They left for Bangalore on Wednesday.
