Gangtok, Jan. 16: Buddhist, Hindu and Christian priests and monks have gathered at Middlecamp, between Ranipool and Singtam, to hold a week-long prayer meeting for world peace.
The Vishwa Shanti Yagya, being held at Middlecamp School ground, saw a large turnout on Tuesday the inaugural day.
Forest and environment minister D.T. Lepcha, who is also the legislator representing the area, was the chief guest.
Devotees attending the yajna held a procession from Singtam to Middlecamp.
Chief minister Pawan Chamling will also attend the yajna on January 19. Fifty jhakris (local shamans) are expected to perform on that day.
