Sept. 19: Post-mortem reports in the cases recorded by the city police will be available online. Metro had on August 28 reported about the project, which officers said is ready.
"Relatives or friends of the deceased will no longer have to run around for the report but can access it with the click of a mouse or download it on their smartphones," additional commissioner Vishal Garg said.
Police, however, said it was difficult to set a deadline for uploading the report online after an unnatural death.
How to access a post-mortem report
• Any close kin or friend of the deceased who wants to access the report has to register his/her mobile number with the police when the body is sent for post-mortem
• After the procedure, the person has to log onto www.kolkatapolice.gov.in and click on the "Post mortem report" hyperlink. A page will open
• Click on "download pm report". A form will pop up. The person has to enter the registered mobile number or fill in the form with details of the morgue, post-mortem number, date of the procedure and the registered mobile number
• A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number. Once the OTP is fed, the post-mortem report will be generated.
How to verify the post-mortem report
The veracity of an online post-mortem report can be verified by inserting the online verification code printed at the bottom of the post-mortem report.
