Pilgrims' progress
Pilgrims leave the Dankuni gurdwara on Saturday to head for Takht Shri Patna Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh's birthplace, for the 10th Sikh guru's 350th birth anniversary celebrations. They will be joined by pilgrims from Asansol on Sunday. Another batch will leave Calcutta on Monday. "The transport department has provided buses for the pilgrims, on the chief minister's instructions. We are grateful to her," said Tejinder Singh Walia, vice-president, Bara Sikh Sangat Gurdwara on MG Road. "In Calcutta, too, we have planned celebrations," said Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, honorary secretary of 350 Years Sri Guru Gobind Singhji Prakash Utsav Committee, formed with members of all 80-odd gurdwaras across Bengal. Sunday will see a procession from the Rashbehari gurdwara to the MG Road gurdwara, followed by three-day celebrations on the Shahid Minar ground from Tuesday. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will attend the celebrations on Thursday.
