The coming week will see three evenings of music, dance and drama at The Park’s New Festival, Edition VII, curated by Prakriti Foundation.

The festival will start on September 17 with an evening titled “Osama, Cinema and a Whole Lot of Black Money”, where Stray Factory will stage four witty short plays — Chairpersons, Cine Ma, Lost Audition and P James for President at Galaxy, 7pm onwards. Stray Factory is a group of artistes, writers and musicians and they have performed in more than 30 venues across five countries in the last three years.

On Wednesday, it’ll be a night of contemporary dance at Gyan Manch, 7pm onwards, by NH7, a group that aims to capture in their steps “the confused and rapid urbanisation around us”. The performance attempts to address the changing landscape of an urban existence and how individuals respond to the resulting mayhem.

Thursday promises “A Moment of Mishearing”, a soulful evening with author and musician Amit Chaudhuri, at Galaxy (7pm). A Moment of Mishearing is an audio-visual narrative, including film and music, weaving in a concert performance experience.

“I have been into Hindusthani classical music for a long time. One morning I was singing Raga Todi when I felt as if I had heard the riff to Eric Clapton’s Layla in that raga. That’s how the project about convergence of music began and took shape as a radio programme for BBC Radio 3. Later the audio-visual show happened after it got a £25,000 grant from the Arts Council England,” said Chaudhuri.

The audio-visual performance had its inaugural show at Kings Place, London, in October 2012, as part of a festival called Notes & Letters.
