HOW TO HOST A KKR BASH AT HOME TEAM METRO Published 27.05.12, 12:00 AM

With the Kolkata Knight Riders making it to the IPL finals for the first time, young fans in the city get ready to cheer their home team in style. So what if the budget is tight? Here’s how to house-party right!

The venue: Choose a friend’s house where the parents are either away or are okay with hosting a noisy party. A big LCD screen along with a good sound system and a fridge to keep the, er, sips chilled are some of the must-haves.

The décor: Dim and low lights. Use lampshades. You definitely don’t want furniture getting in the way of cheering and dancing. So clear the couch and the tables and keep floor cushions, rugs and beanbags aplenty. Make sure there is a lot of purple around. Buy KKR flags (available at Maidan Market) and do up the place in purple and gold balloons. Keep a party popper ready for the winning moment.

The dress code: Wear KKR fan jerseys (Rs 999), available at all Reebok stores or cheaper jerseys at the Maidan Market (Rs100-600). Your best bet is the Maidan Market, as Reebok has run out of fan jerseys.

The munchies: Nachos with a dip, ready-to-fry potato wedges, French fries, chicken nuggets…. Take lots of chips, chop some onions, sprinkle chaat masala, squeeze some lime, add finely chopped chillies, mix it well and serve it up. For variety, keep salted groundnuts handy.

The tipple: Keep lots and lots of cold drinks handy. Also, try you hand at making the KKRazy Cocktail.

What you need: Lime juice, grape juice, ice, soda, vodka, gin, cocktail mixer.

What you do: 2 teaspoons lime juice, 120ml of grape juice, 30ml of vodka, 30ml of gin; add ice to mixer, shake and serve.

The KKR special: Since the normal party games are out, you can always spice things up. Take a shot of the KKRazy Cocktail every time a CSK wicket falls, every time a KKR six is hit, every time you catch Gambhir smile, every time they show Shah Rukh Khan.

The music: This is a house party after all and dancing is a must, during the strategic timeouts and definitely between innings. Just make a playlist. Some recommendations:

Korbo lorbo jeetbo…

SRK numbers, like Chammak challo and Chak de India

Shots by LMFAO

Any Skrillex song

Dance Again by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull

We are Young by Fun featuring Janelle Monáe

Wild Ones by Flo Rida

Payphone by Maroon 5

Avicci by ID

Any David Guetta song

Mind it

• Keep showpieces, vases and any other breakable items away from the party scene.

• Keep lots of newspapers and a rag nearby for spilt drinks and food.

• Keep black bin bags or large plastic bags around for people to throw the rubbish.

• If you have friends who smoke, do not forget to have ashtrays around. We recommend buying large earthen pots; they are large enough not to miss.

• Make sure you have enough paper napkins, paper plates and plastic glasses.

• Last but not the least — keep a camera around, take lots of pictures and send them in to t2@abp.in or ttmetro@abpmail.com.

Metro went around town to find out what GenY will be up to on Super Sunday, and where

At Shisha

“Finally, after four years, we have reached the finals! I will be chilling with my friends at Shisha as I’m a regular there. I hope we win. I am a Calcuttan at heart.”

Aritra Majumdar, 17

Pune resident

“A friend of mine watched the KKR versus Delhi Daredevils match at Shisha. I think it has the perfect ambience for one to enjoy such a match. A target of 165-170 should be good if we are batting first. The wickets of Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay and maybe Suresh Raina should be taken within the first six overs.”

Prithvi Chakraborty,

Kasba resident

At a friend’s place

“I usually work late on Sundays but I will try and wrap

up early and go to my friend’s place to enjoy the match.”

Arijit Dasgupta

“IPL is an excuse to spend quality time with close friends. So I’m going to catch up with them and enjoy. The first four batsmen should be consistent. We should play three spinners and two fast bowlers.”

Nilav Kolay

At home

“KKR is a perfect winning team! I live with my grandmother and aunt in Lake Town and will enjoy the match with them. Since my grandmother, 80, is a huge cricket fan, it is always fun watching the match with her.”

Sarthak Sen,

B.Tech student

“I belong to a cricket-crazy family. IPL is short, sweet and fun. KKR will definitely bring the trophy home.”

Sneha Bhuwalka,

Park Street resident

At The Tollygunge Club

A giant screen will be put up in the Shamiana and there will be finger food to munch.

At RCGC

There’ll be a giant screen in the lounge with a special bar so that members need not stray too far from the action as they cheer their Knights.

At The Saturday Club

A giant screen has been erected on the lawns and the match will be beamed in high-definition. To recreate the stadium atmosphere, the club will bring in a DJ and dancers. The club will also hand out KKR flags and horns to members who come to watch the match.
