Kalimpong, Jan. 21: Confusion may reign at Dambar Chowk here tomorrow with two parties claiming to have permission to hold public meetings at the same spot.

Both the GNLF and Gorkha Jankranti Morcha have announced they will hold a meeting at the venue, at approximately the same time, to familiarise the electorate with their plans and programmes.

GNLF Kalimpong branch president Dawa Pakhrin said: ?We will hold a public meeting tomorrow at Damber Chowk. This is a part of the programme we have started to make people aware of Gorkhaland. We have already held such a meeting at Gorubathan earlier this week and will continue the programme with a series of meetings, in different parts of the subdivision in the days to come.?

Echoing his words GNLF Kalimpong branch general secretary Roshan Rai said: ?We want to educate the people about the demand forGorkhaland and the progress we have achieved so far on the issue.?

He also added that the GNLF had got the permission for holding the meeting tomorrow and announced that it would start at 11 in the morning.

However, Gorkha Janakranti Morcha president Kalyan Dewan had a different story to tell.

?We have already taken permission from the Kalimpong subdivisional officer, and we are the ones who are going to hold the public meeting tomorrow at Damber Chowk. We had taken the permission for a public meeting on Wednesday, but as the GNLF said it was going to hold a public meeting on that day, we backed out. But for some reason they could not hold the meeting. So we took permission to hold our meeting on Saturday.?
