Jan. 16: A team comprising CID officers and representatives of various agencies today visited the Jessop factory in Dum Dum to ascertain the volume of materials supplied by the railways that has gone missing.

The team included officials of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel), railways and Jessop.

The railway officials on the panel came with a list of materials that had been supplied to Jessop for manufacturing two rakes in 2009 and 2012.

The visit followed a high court order last week directing the railways, Bhel, CID and the Jessop management to make a fresh inventory of the materials kept on the premises of the Jessore Road factory.

The court has also allowed Bhel and the railways to collect their materials from the factory.

Jessop owner Pawan Ruia was arrested at his Delhi house on December 10 based on a complaint lodged by the railways alleging disappearance of materials worth Rs 49.8 crore they had supplied to the private company.

The next day Ruia was also charged with criminal conspiracy and destruction of documents by setting a portion of the factory on fire.

Ruia was today produced in the Barrackpore court and remanded in the CID custody for two days. "We have come across some evidences and Ruia's interrogation is required," a CID officer said.

The railways had prepared an inventory and placed it before the high court on January 4. The court then allowed the railways to collect and auction articles seized from the factory to raise the money it had paid Jessop for building the rakes.

Bhel entered the Jessop fray on January 11 by submitted an affidavit in the high court, saying it had placed an order with Jessop for a rake which it never got.
