Abha Rath opens the cafeteria at the shrine near Nathu-la and (above) Usha Pillai inaugurates the fair at Kalimpong |
Abha Rath, the president of the Army Wives’ Welfare Association of the Trishakti Corps, inaugurated an open-air cafeteria at the Baba Harbhajan Singh shrine near the India-China border at Nathu-la on May 3.
The shrine located at 14,400ft in Sikkim is visited by thousands of tourists and the local people during the tourist season. Earlier, the AWWA had opened Café 13,000 and Souvenir Shop near the shrine for the convenience of the tourists. Lt Gen. P.K. Rath, the General-Officer-Commanding of the Trishakti Corps and Maj. Gen. Sanjiv Chachra, GOC, Black Cat Division, were present, besides hundreds of tourists and the local people.
Grand fair
A mega mela has begun at the Gompa grounds of the Kalimpong Military Station under a clear sky. The only of its kind in Kalimpong town, the fair was thrown open to the public on May 12 by Usha Pillai, the president of the AWWA of the Striking Lion Division. Organised as part of the 54th Raising Day celebrations of the military station, the mela will continue till May 17. It comprises a large number of events showcasing achievements of the army.
Healthcare tips
A lecture on Life Style Diseases – Effects and Prevention was conducted for women of Sukna and Shiv Mandir military stations at Sukna. The speakers, who included Brig. P.L. Prasad and Col Arun Tyagi of Military Hospital Bengdubi, discussed the scourge of lifestyle diseases in a lucid manner. The lecture was informative and was well received by the audience. Abha Rath, president, AWWA, Trishakti Corps, was the chief guest.
Retirement plans
The Indian Army has started training its personnel through open distance learning programme. The Trishakti Corps is one of the pioneers in imparting a six-month course training in hospitality and facility management to soldiers proceeding on retirement. These courses will equip the retiring personnel with knowledge to get suitable jobs in the corporate world.
The academic and technical staff members of the Indian Knowledge Corporation, Pune, has conducted contact sessions for the personnel. The trainees are exposed to theoretical, practical and applied training in communication skills, office administration, public relations, inventory control, vendor management, storage, software development, hardware maintenance.
