Calcutta: Residents of Kamarhati and Konnagar will be able to pay their property tax online from May, sources in the state urban development department have said.
The facility of online tax payment is available for residents of 15 municipalities and government sources said it would be extended to nine more municipalities by the end of the month.
Kamarhati and Konnagar municipalities are among the nine civic bodies.
An official in the urban development department said the facility would be extended to the remaining 102 municipalities in the state by the end of 2018.
"We introduced the online system of paying property tax in January in 15 municipalities. We are targeting to extend the system to all municipalities in Bengal by the end of this year," the official said.
The 15 municipalities where the system was first introduced include Barrackpore, North Dum Dum, Panihati, Budge Budge and Kalyani.
Those who want to make the payment online can log into www.holdingtax.co.in. "The taxpayer will be able to find out the outstanding tax amount on the website and can also pay the tax," an official of the West Bengal Valuation Board said.
The taxpayers can also log into the mobile app Municipality Tax Payment - West Bengal - UDMA, which can be downloaded from Play Store.
After downloading the app, the taxpayer has to key in the district, municipality, ward number and holding number of the house. This will provide information on the outstanding tax amount and the payment can be made through the app. The taxpayer will also get an online receipt.
The board is digitising the holding records of all taxpayers in all municipalities of Bengal. Taxpayers can also visit the valuation board's website to find out details about their holdings.
"The valuation amount, the annual tax and other details are available on the website. If any taxpayer finds that there is any discrepancy in the data published on the website, they should approach their respective municipality to get it corrected," the official said
