Monitor lizard rescued from La Martiniere

A monitor lizard rescued from the campus of La Martiniere for Girls on Sunday. Guards at the school spotted two monitor lizards, each around 3ft long, on the Beckbagan side of the campus. While one of them disappeared into a bush, the guards rescued the other, said a school official. The monitor lizard was kept in a cage that was given to the school by the forest department after a few civets were spotted on the campus a few months ago.Forest department officials later took the monitor lizard to the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Salt Lake. 'The monitor lizard will either be handed over to the zoo or released in the wild,' said an official. Monitor lizards are not known to harm human beings.Two years ago, a tortoise was rescued from the school grounds
