All candidates in the state medical JEE this year will be awarded a mark each for eight questions that have been found to be incorrect.

Experts engaged by the JEE board found that five multiple-choice questions in the biology paper and three in the combined physics and chemistry paper either did not have an answer or did not have an answer matching any of the offered choices.

The mistakes were brought to light by candidates' feedback on the July 20 test and then confirmed by experts.

The board had sought feedback on the medical entrance examination from August 10 to 13. The results of the exam will be announced at 2pm on Thursday.

"Candidates will get marks for the eight questions whether they attempted them or skipped them. Those who skipped the questions might have done so because they found them confusing. We did not want to do injustice to them," JEE board chairman Sajal Dasgupta said.

A notification to this effect was posted on the board's website ( www.wbjeeb.nic.in) last Saturday. The biology paper carries 150 marks and the combined physics and chemistry paper carries 100 marks.

The feedback on the test has also revealed that five of the model answers posted on the website by the board were wrong.

A board official said the wrong answers have been corrected in the "final answer keys" on the basis of which the answer scripts would be evaluated.

The board had decided in July to upload the answer scripts of the medical entrance test on its website and seek feedback on model question and answers following a nudge from the high court.
