New Town: Narcotics Control Bureau officers arrested an architectural engineer early on Tuesday on the charge of peddling party drugs like Ecstasy and LSD.

Rhythm Das Ray, 32, was picked up based on information provided by Niloy Ghosh, 22, and Jerome Watson, 25, who had been arrested in December, an NCB officer said.

Officers had then seized 148 LSD blotters, 24 Strawberry Quicks, a flavoured drug, and around 26.6g of Ecstasy from the them.

Ray, a Park Street resident, had met Niloy Ghosh at a nightclub a year ago. Ghosh used to deposit money in Ray's account through ATMs in Salt Lake and adjoining areas, the officer said.

"Ray would then place orders for Ecstasy through the dark web. Payment was in cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin," Dilip Srivasatava, director, NCB, Calcutta zone, said.

The dark web is a part of the Internet that is difficult to track as the content is encrypted and access requires special software and configurations.

Ray claimed Ghosh had bought several consignments of drugs, especially LSD and Ecstasy, in the six months before his arrest, Srivastava said.

A vendor in Nashik is on the NCB radar as most consignments were routed through there. "Ray sourced the drugs mostly from Nashik and Bangalore," he said.

Ray has been booked under the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances act.
