Calcutta High Court advocate Jayanta Narayan Chatterjee has complained to police about threat calls and text messages he had allegedly received on Sunday.

In his complaint lodged with joint police commissioner (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh on Monday, Chatterjee alleged that a man had called him twice on Sunday and threatened him saying he would have to pay a price if he refused to “restrain himself”.

The police have come to know that the caller was in the Dhakuria area when he threatened the lawyer.

The police said Chatterjee had received six text messages from the same number.

“The man, who was speaking in Bengali, threatened to kill me and molest or rape my wife if I ignored his warning,” Chatterjee said.

The unidentified man also threatened that Chatterjee’s wife and son would go missing if the lawyer refused to “restrain himself”.

Chatterjee, a senior criminal lawyer, had appeared against the state in the Kamduni rape and murder case but his submission was not allowed following opposition from the defence lawyer.

Joint commissioner Ghosh said the cell phone number from which the threat calls and text messages came had been put under surveillance.

“Sleuths are trying to get details of the subscriber who was issued the SIM card. We have already got some leads and a breakthrough is expected shortly,” he said.
