Islampur, July 19: Both the hands of a woman were slashed by a gang of armed robbers who raided the house of a school teacher at Dangapara in North Dinajpur in the early hours today.
Police said the gang had entered the house, located 35km from here, around 2am by forcing open a grilled door. When the housewife, Urmila Biswas, raised an alarm, she was struck on the arms by a sharp weapon. She was held at gunpoint by one of the gang members as the rest carried out the robbery.
The woman’s husband Himangshu Biswas — a teacher of Dangapara High School — stood helpless as the robbers took away Rs 35,000 in cash and 100 grams of gold ornaments. Urmila was admitted to Lodhan block primary health centre, where she is recovering.
