A doctor from Kolkata Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar has bagged the International World psychiatric fellowship award 2021.

Dr. Dastidar has been awarded the WPA fellowship award by the 2021 World Congress of Psychiatry.

The panel included Dr. Norman Sartorius NYU, Dr. Danuta Wasserman Karolinska University, Dr. Afzal Jawed WPA President, Dr. Peter Mazaroff.

This is the highest award for Early Career Psychiatrists, the assessment is done on basis of research, academic standing, the press note said. This is the first instance of a doctor from West Bengal working with the WBMES being awarded such an honor.

This is the second international award Dr. Dastidar has received. Earlier in 2017, he was awarded for best oral presentation at the 2017 SAARC Congress.

Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar is currently working as a consultant psychiatrist in Calcutta National Medical College and will commence specialty training in Norfolk University NHS Trust, United Kingdom.

When contacted Dr. Dastidar thanked his parents Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Member of Parliament, and his father Dr. Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar for motivating him to pursue medicine.

He also thanked his teachers in RG Kar Medical College.
