Calcutta, Aug. 29: The Mamata Banerjee government will launch bottled drinking water under the brand name Pran Dhara tomorrow.
The public health engineering (PHE) department has hired a company to distribute the bottles across the state after they are officially launched in the presence of celebrities and government officials at a five-star hotel in south Calcutta.
Sources said each one-litre bottle would cost Rs 18 and a half-litre bottle Rs 9, adding that chief minister Mamata Banerjee had suggested the brand name.
"The government has set up seven plants," PHE minister Subrata Mukherjee said. Each plant can produce 3,500 litres of water an hour.
Pran Dhara, purified Ganga water, is now supplied to the chief minister's office at Nabanna. Pran Dhara bottles are used during administrative meetings chaired by Mamata.
