March 20: Four men who were allegedly involved in a brawl at Shimmers nightclub in Sector V on Holi were arrested today in Alipurduar's Jaigaon, which borders Bhutan.

A Beniapukur resident suffered a head injury in the brawl.

The four arrested were Faiz Alam alias Haider, Ravi Singh, Vishnu and Pankaj - all residents of the Beniapukur and Park Circus areas.

The police started looking for them after questioning Imtiaz Ali, 28, another Beniapukur resident, who was arrested within 48 hours of the brawl.

The owner of the nightclub, Jagjit Singh, 53, was arrested in Delhi yesterday.

An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said the four had not returned home after the fight and stayed at several guest houses in the city before heading for north Bengal.

"All of them had switched off their phones," the officer said. "They were planning to slip into Bhutan from Jaigaon."

A team comprising officers of the commissionerate's detective department was sent to Jaigaon after one of the four called a relative in the city. "The gang had run out of money and the man who made the call asked the relative for cash," the officer said.

"The four were led by Haider. We arrested them before they could cross over to Bhutan," said Santosh Pandey, deputy commissioner, detective department.

The group led by Haider had allegedly attacked the Beniapukur resident and smashed a flowerpot on his head. The brawl was captured on CCTV cameras.
