District police teams seize narcotics from two Malda locations

Teams of Englishbazar and Kaliachak police stations seize 1,300 cough syrup bottles from an abandoned car at Kadamtala village

District police teams seized brown sugar and cough syrup bottles from two locations in Malda on Tuesday night.

Sources said that acting on information, a police team from Golapganj investigation centre under Kaliachak police station searched the house of one Prafulla Mandal at Naldahari village to find 306 grams of brown sugar, a derivative of heroin. Mandal was arrested.

Teams of Englishbazar and Kaliachak police stations jointly seized 1,300 cough syrup bottles from an abandoned car at Kadamtala village, near the India-Bangladesh border in Kaliachak. No one was arrested.

The BSF, in its anti-smuggling drives under its north Bengal frontier in the past four days, seized contraband items worth Rs 3.51 lakh, including 9kg cannabis.

Indian youth nabbed

Sahirul Haque, 20, of Cooch Behar, was nabbed by the BSF personnel at Saraswati outpost at the India-Bangladesh border of the district on Tuesday. Allegedly, Bangladeshi Taka 4,500 was found on the youth who was roaming beyond the fences. He was handed over to Customs.
