Burglary plan fails

Burglars broke into the Salkia branch of the Central Bank of India in Howrah early on Tuesday. Police said the burglars entered through a balcony window and broke two locks of a collapsible gate. They tried to break open an almirah and the vault but failed, the police said. CCTV cameras installed on the corridor and inside the bank showed they had torches with them.

Road death

The driver of a mini-truck was killed and the cleaner injured after the vehicle was hit by a Howrah-bound trailer truck from Dunkuni on NH 6, near Salap, on Tuesday.

Fire

A fire broke out at a bar-cum-restaurant on Central South Road on Monday afternoon. A fire tender took nearly 15 minutes to douse the flames. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Body in pond

A 70-year-old woman was found floating in a pond near her house in Hooghly's Chinsurah on Tuesday. Police said Lakshmi Das had been missing since Monday. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
