Siliguri, April 20: Minister Gautam Deb today reprimanded two warring Inttuc leaders at New Jalpaiguri, Prasenjit Roy and Joydip Nandi, a day after a few supporters of the trade union had been attacked in a faction fight.
Yesterday, Nandi had barged into the office of Roy at New Jalpaiguri, along with his followers, and attacked a few supporters of the latter. Roy, the Inttuc president of the NJP unit, and Nandi, the president of the trade union in Dabgram-Fulbari, have been vying with each other to get absolute control of over 15 unions in the NJP area.
Today, Deb held a meeting with the two leaders at his home to resolve the issue. "The minister upbraided Roy and Nandi for the factional feud," said a source in Trinamul.
After the meeting, the minister told the media: "Trinamul is a large family and minor differences are quite normal in a family. Even then, we have made it clear to all of them that whatever happened yesterday should not be repeated. The issue has been sorted out."
Both Roy and Nandi said "the matter has been resolved".
Meet cancelled
Deb today cancelled a proposed meeting at Uttarkanya in Siliguri to review the projects being undertaken by the north Bengal development department headed by him.
He said the session was being scrapped as the model code of conduct was in force because elections in Cooch Behar district were yet to be held. The district comes under the north Bengal development department.
The Left Front had earlier in the day filed a complaint with the administration saying the meeting was in violation of the model code of conduct. But the cancellation of the meeting had nothing to do with the complaint.
The minister this morning reviewed the projects undertaken by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority. He said elections had already been held in the areas under the SJDA and hence, there was no problem in holding such a meeting.
