March 4: The state government will build six buildings on the 40-acre plot in Paharpur, Jalpaiguri town, the site selected to raise the permanent infrastructure of the Calcutta High Court circuit bench.

“There will be six different buildings at the permanent site of the circuit bench. The plan has been drawn up and work has started. Adequate provisions have been made to ensure that all offices and rooms, required for functioning of the circuit bench, can be opened,” said north Bengal development minister Gautam Deb, who is overseeing the construction work.

“We are creating the infrastructure keeping in mind that there should be space and provisions for 16 judges of Calcutta High Court to work here,” said Deb. According to the minister, all the buildings would be four-storied. “There will be court rooms, chambers of the Chief Justice and other judges, offices of the advocate-general, the registrar-general and government lawyers. Provisions for the Bar association, canteen, parking and other offices would also be made,” Deb said.

The minister further said that Block A would have the oath commissioner’s room on the ground floor, inspection and filing sections on the first floor, correspondence section on the second floor and accounts and establishment department on the third floor. Block B would have courtrooms on the ground, first and second floors and the court library and a lobby on the third floor.

“The state government has already sanctioned Rs 60.85 crore for building the permanent infrastructure. Besides this, around Rs 11 crore has been sanctioned to build the boundary wall, develop and level the plot. Construction of the boundary wall is almost complete,” Deb said. “We intend to finish the construction work by April 30 next year.”
