Police seized 130kg of cannabis from a truck in Pakriguri on NH27 at the Bengal-Assam border on Thursday and arrested two persons, both residents of Bihar, in this connection.

The police said they intercepted the truck, that was heading towards Bengal from Assam, and found 12 packets of the drugs — each packet weighing 10 to 11kg — concealed under tarpaulin.

The estimated price of the seized cannabis is around Rs 10,40,000.

“We suspect that the duo were smuggling the narcotics to Bihar,” said a police officer.

In a separate raid, the police have seized brown sugar from Birpara. They have seized an SUV and have arrested two persons.

Darjeeling police seized 18kg of cannabis from a bus on Wednesday that was heading towards Calcutta from Siliguri. Two women have been arrested in this connection. The estimated price of the cann-abis is around Rs 1.44 lakh.
