Siliguri, Oct. 26: Attires to suit 48 degrees Celsius?
That is what the International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) has in store for their annual graduation show to be held here on November 14. Christened “48 Degree Celsius”, the fashion show will convey the go-green message with clothes that have natural fibres like jute and khadi and modern designs.
“The temperature is escalating every year as an effect of global warming. The temperature of Siliguri has crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark and is nearing 48 degrees Celsius. Although the changes in nature cannot be resisted, we can at least adjust our lifestyles and start by wearing eco-friendly clothes,” said Kuntanil, designer and centre in-charge of INIFD in Siliguri, said.
Endorsing the concept, the winner of the Sananda Tilottama Miss Talented and Miss Sensuality titles for 2009 Priti Jana and models Madhavilatha, Ishika and will flaunt the students’ creations at Saubhagya Palace Designer Sarbari Dutta will be among the panel of judges.
“People especially youngsters go for branded stuff paying little attention to the material that are used. Synthetic fabrics like nylon are pushing aside natural textiles. We are using this platform to drive home the message that environment and user-friendly clothes that allow the skin to breathe is a must for a healthy lifestyle,” Kuntanil added.
Khadi and jute will be extensively used in the fashion show but a special range of clothes designed by INIFD seniors will be for all sections of the society.
“We have individual categories for school going kids, teenagers, housewives, professionals where a range of clothes will be displayed. This will give the audience an idea of the different designs in clothes made of khadi and jute,” the INIFD in-charge said.
Dermatologists, botanists and horticulturists, too, have been invited to speak on the benefits of natural fabrics.
