Park Circus: A stretch of Circus Avenue will remain closed from Tuesday night for three months for the construction of pillars of the ramp that would connect Parama and AJC Bose Road flyovers.

A traffic diversion plan has been worked out to minimise snarls and disruptions at the Park Circus seven-point crossing, police said on Saturday.

Circus Avenue is the road going towards Beckbagan from Park Circus.

"This was necessary to facilitate the construction of the last leg of the ramp," Sumit Kumar, DC, traffic, told Metro. "We have worked out a diversion plan for small cars and buses for the next two months. We will close the stretch from Tuesday night."

There are 11 pillars on this stretch of Circus Avenue, which will hold the deck slab of the ramp and merge it with the AJC Bose Road flyover, an official of Hindustan Construction Company that is building the ramp, said.

Work remained stuck on this stretch because of the complicated design that had to be cleared by a specialised agency and to get a nod from Lalbazar to block the road.

The deadline set by a high-court appointed committee for the ramp was May 31.

Once completed, the kilometre-long ramp will allow vehicles on the Parama flyover from the Bypass-end to get on to the AJC Bose Road flyover bypassing the seven-point crossing.

"We will start erecting the superstructure of the ramp on this stretch from Wednesday," the HCC official said.

"This remains the most crucial stretch for the ramp and we want to hasten the work. Lot of time has been lost and our machines have remained idle for a long time."

Vehicles headed for Minto Park from the seven-point crossing will have to use Theatre Road or Park Street as part of the diversion plan.

If a vehicle reaches a point where the road has been closed, it will be diverted via West Range Road, a sergeant of the East traffic guard said.

"We will fine-tune the plan once the blockade is in place. The challenge will be rain and the schools in the area. Parents and students will have to get used to a new way."

The three-month period has been given keeping the Puja in mind, an officer in Lalbazar said. This year, the Puja will begin in mid-October the officer said the police would like to open the stretch by then.
