Olana Marie Peters and Roshni Chakraborty of La Martiniere for Girls with the winners’ trophy for the 15th edition of Spellinc presented by Linc Pens, 91.9 Friends FM and Renault, in association with TTIS. The girls will represent Bengal in the national finals to be held in the city, where they will take on winners from seven other cities. Abhinav Bharati fest

Twelve schools participated in Manthan, a fest hosted by the junior section of Abhinav Bharati High School at Gyan Manch. The participants were from classes III to V. The hosts emerged overall winners and handed over the trophy to runner-up Delhi Public School, Ruby Park. The most popular event was Dhwani or the group singing competition. The Delhi Public School team mesmerised the audience with its rendition of Goan songs.

Carnival at Dholakpur

Kids and their family enjoyed a Sunday with the gang from Dholakpur at the Chhota Bheem carnival hosted by three branches of Young Learners Montessori at Agri-Horticultural Society garden. The venue was dotted with food and games stall, put up by the mothers of kids. Another hit was the tattoo and nail art corner. The three principals, Rekha Sachdeva, Sonia Barman and Sangita Surekha, too let their hair down at the fair ground. “The fancy dress and dance programmes were super fun! I enjoyed myself as much as the kids and their parents,” said Barman, the principal of the Royd Street branch.

Montessori exhibition

The life and philosophy of Maria Montessori was the theme of the annual exhibition at the Short Street and Rajarhat branches of Mongrace Montessori schools. The exhibits included various teaching devices as well as charts and models made by the tiny tots. “Montessori is a philosophy for life. One needs to have faith in it to be a part of it. I feel my period at Mongrace has really enriched me,” said Suman Sood, the director of the Short Street branch, which stepped into its 50th year. Her counterpart at Rajarhat, Chandrika Ramakrishnan, added: “For us every child is a gift and each one gets individual care. Their all-round development is most important to us.”

Science is fun

BITM celebrated National Science Day with a host of activities for school students. The day began with a science march from Park Circus Maidan to BITM. An exhibition on Srinivas Ramanujan was the highlight. A sit-and-draw competition and an open house quiz were also held.
