Education fair

St Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, organised an education fair (picture left by Amit Datta) to mark the 150th birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore, as well as its own silver jubilee. Nineteen reputed institutes, including a medical institute from China, attended the career fair targeted at Class XI and XII students.

The day began with a dance performed to Tagore’s Aguner poroshmoni by the students. The main attractions were the Happy Hour stall, where prizes were given to lucky entrants, an open quiz conducted by Richard Gasper and the food stalls.

The programme ended with a felicitation to the chief guest Sultan Ahmed, minister of state for tourism, and the school founders C.R. Gasper and his wife.

Annual function

Birla High School for Boys organised its annual day programme on April 29 and 30, beginning with the singing of Saraswati vandana, followed by Vande Mataram. This was followed by a fusion piece of western and Indian music, with instruments like the Spanish guitar, violin, sitar and tabla.

Next up was a skit, It’s A Mad Mad World, about an asylum peopled with historic personalities like Napoleon and Adolf Hitler. This was followed by a dance drama, Jagriti, on the death of freedom fighter, Mangal Pandey.

Said Principal Mukta Nain: “The credit for the programme goes to our teachers and students, who planned everything in a short time.” The day ended with the Principal’s annual report and prizes being given away to meritorious students.
