A woman who was allegedly heckled by two men riding a scooter near Park Circus on Monday night had noted down the last four digits of the two-wheeler’s registration number that helped police arrest the accused on Wednesday.

The woman has mentioned in her complaint that she was allegedly stalked on a deserted stretch in front of Pavlov Hospital around 10pm on Monday. When she protested, the scooterists allegedly got into an altercation with her.

“She has alleged that she was stalked and then heckled when she protested. The riders sped away shouting abuses at her when she started screaming,” said an officer of Topsia police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident happened.

An officer said the woman had mentioned the last four digits of the scooter’s registration number and that made the police’s job easy.

The cops zeroed in on the two accused persons. They were identified as Iven Chowhan alias Abhishek, 22, of Linton Street, and Zulfikar Khan alias Gullu, 21, of Dr Suresh Sarkar Road. The two-wheeler that the youths were riding was seized.

A case has been drawn up under IPC sections related to stalking, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and outrage of modesty through words and gestures.

Calcutta police had received a similar complaint last Sunday where the complainant had alleged that she was molested by a biker on the southern fringes of the city.

The woman had provided the police with the last four digits of the bike but the accused are yet to be traced. The description of the two-wheeler given by the woman did not match that any of the bikes with a combination of the last four digits provided by the complainant.
