Calcuttans rushed to markets across the city to stock-up ahead of the lockdown which started at 5pm on Monday. Vegetables, eggs and other essentials flew off the shelves. Some queued up in front of liquor shops. Large parts of the city remained deserted through the day with a handful of people and vehicles on the streets
