Darjeeling, May 25: The labour commissioner has directed management of tea gardens across the state to submit a formal and concrete proposal on wage revision for the workers within a fortnight, after a tripartite meeting in Calcutta today failed to make much headway.
The meeting was convened after garden unions across north Bengal threatened to launch an agitation. The labour commissioner has directed the management to submit a formal proposal on the wage revision in the next meeting slated for June 8 in Calcutta.
