May 14: A 250m stretch of the west-bound flank of Circus Avenue, between the points where it meets Nasiruddin Road and Beckbagan Row, has been closed for the construction of a ramp that will connect AJC Bose Road flyover to Parama flyover.

Once the ramp is ready, Maidan-bound traffic from the Bypass plying down the Parama flyover won't have to descend on the Park Circus crossing to shift to the AJC Bose Road flyover.

Disruption

Vehicles headed for Beckbagan, Minto Park and the Exide crossing from Park Circus will be worst hit. All vehicles from Park Circus will be able to take the AJC Bose Road flyover to travel towards the Maidan.

Snarls

Traffic snarls are feared on Circus Avenue, Nasiruddin Road, Congress Exhibition Road and Syed Amir Ali Avenue. It took close to 10 minutes to reach the starting point of the AJC Bose Road flyover from the Park Circus seven-point crossing, a distance of around 100m, on Sunday evening.

There were snarls on Congress Exhibition Road and Nasiruddin Road, too. Officers said the chaos would intensify on weekdays.

Ramp alignment

The 1,100-m ramp being built will diverge from the Parama flyover near Topsia police station and run over Congress Exhibition Road, Nasiruddin Road and a stretch of Circus Avenue before merging with the AJC Bose Road flyover at the Beckbagan crossing.

Work timetable

HCC, the private contractor building the ramp, has said it would take at least five months to build the ramp but work may stretch beyond that as the monsoon is approaching.

Traffic tips

The best option is to take Park Street or Shakespeare Sarani from the Park Circus seven-point crossing.

If you are at the Nasiruddin Road-Circus Avenue crossing (from where the road is blocked) take West Range (the road that passes along Alliance Francaise du Bengale and The Conclave) to move west and Karaya Road and Meher Ali Road to move north.
