South Dinajpur: Border Security Force nabs Yaba ‘smuggler’

BSF carries out anti-smuggling drives in various locations and seizes contraband items including heroin, cattle and cough syrup

Troops of the 61st battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted at Govindpur on the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur apprehended an alleged Indian smuggler on Saturday.

Elem Molla, a resident of Purba Govindpur village, was found carrying 990 pieces of Yaba (an addictive combination of methamphetamine and caffeine) tablets. He was reportedly trying to smuggle those to Bangladesh.

Molla was handed over to Hilli police station.

The BSF also carried out anti-smuggling drives in various locations under the north Bengal frontier from Friday to Sunday and seized contraband items including heroin, cattle and cough syrup. The cost of the seized items is Rs 75.40 lakh, BSF sources said.

Matigara police under Siliguri Metropolitan Police raided two eateries in Durgamandir area and Kadamtala, both on the outskirts of Siliguri, on Saturday night, and arrested four persons for illegally selling liquor.

IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) worth around Rs 2 lakh was seized during the raid.
