Bolpur, Sept. 9: Alleged Trinamul activists today disrupted a meeting that the CPM's Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya and the Congress's Abdul Mannan were holding with protesting landlosers in Birbhum and kicked and banged on their cars later.

The two leaders had come to Bolpur's Shibpur village to lend support to farmers demanding more compensation for land that the government had acquired from them in 2002 for industry but is now planning to sell to people for a residential project.

Birbhum Trinamul president Anubrata Mondal said the protests at the meeting were a "spontaneous reaction" by villagers and the party had no role in it. Trinamul sources, however, said they had been "asked to spoil the meeting".
