Golpark: Students of classes V-IX whose mother tongue is Bengali participated in a workshop on Saturday to improve their reading, writing and communication skills in Bengali.

The two-day workshop, organised by Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture and Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, aims to address the problem of not knowing the language correctly. The workshop at Golpark will end on Sunday.

The organisers want to make the students aware of the importance of having a command over Bengali. Twenty-five students were part of various activities that would help them develop correct reading and writing skills in Bengali.

The session started with correct pronunciation of the Bengali alphabets. "Most students don't know the correct pronunciation of various Bengali alphabets," a Jadavpur University teacher said.

Teachers and research scholars from the university and Visva-Bharati conducted the workshop.
