Kalimpong, Oct. 12: Mongolian Hearts, a Nepal-based band, will perform at Mela ground tomorrow, the proceeds of which will go towards aiding physically and mentally challenged children.

The musical programme will also feature the equally popular Kamal Mansingh as a guest artist.

?The idea for the fund-raiser struck the band when it visited Kalimpong last year. Members of Mongolian Hearts had then visited Nirmal Hriday and expressed their desire to do something for the children residing there,? said Jyoti Karki.

Karki is the head of a woman?s group here that is organising the programme for children of the home run by the Missionaries of Charity. Nirmal Hriday is home to orphaned girls, mentally and physically challenged girls and women.

Raju Lama of Mongolian Hearts said: ?We are happy to be able to do something for them. Of course, we don?t know how much funds we will be able to generate, but the idea is to contribute the best for the children.?

For Lama, Kalimpong is like a second home. ?We would like to come here often,? he said.

The programme, to kick off at 1 pm, will have Mongolian Hearts belting out its own numbers like Timi lai dekhe ra and Shayad timro bato ma. Mansingh will also present his own compositions. His Parkhai ko pira was a hit with the people here.

Besides the musical performances, the Under 14 girls? and Under 19 boys? teams that had bagged trophies in the state football tournament will be felicitated in the programme. Karki, however, is apprehensive about the generation of funds from the show.

?So far the sale of tickets has not been good. This is mostly because of the pujas. But we are expecting a good response before the show starts. The children of the home will also be there,? she said.
