Alipore: Soumen Rana, the dance teacher of the Deshapriya Park school who was arrested last month for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class II student, was granted interim bail on Thursday.

Saurab Banik, the lawyer appearing for the 19-year-old, said the accused had been granted bail on certain conditions.

"The second additional district sessions judge of Alipore court has granted the bail on certain conditions. One such condition is that he will not enter the areas under the jurisdiction of Tollygunge and Haridevpur police stations," Banik said.

Rana - a resident of Dum Dum - allegedly touched the seven-year-old inappropriately and threatened to "bury her" when she said she had reported about him to her mother.

According to the complaint, the teacher used to lure the girl with chocolates.

The child had been skipping school - a church-run institution for girls - after she was allegedly subjected to sexual harassment by the dance teacher over several days.

The girl later broke down when her mother asked her why she was reluctant to go to school. The alleged offence was reported on February 9. Rana was arrested the same day.
