Alipurduar, April 14: Biswaranjan Sarkar, the Congress-Left Front alliance candidate for Alipurduar, today demanded that the sitting MLA, Debaprasad Roy, be sacked from the party for allegedly working in cahoots with Trinamul to defeat him.

Sarkar, who is also the Alipurduar district Congress president, has raised the demand close on the heels of Mamata Banerjee publicly thanking Roy for taking a stand against the alliance.

"After Roy was made a Congress candidate in 2011, we tried our best to ensure his victory. Ultimately, he won the seat. Soon, Roy started contacting Trinamul leaders. Few months ago, when PCC president Adhir Chowdhury came to Alipurduar to address a public meeting, Roy was absent. He was in fact busy with a school program, along with Trinamul leaders," Sarkar told The Telegraph.

"Above all, he is trying to defeat me in the Assembly polls this year and all his supporters have joined Trinamul. So, I have requested Adhir Chowdhury to expel Roy from the party," Sarkar said.

He added that even though the AICC had given green light for the tie-up, Roy did not accept it.

Denying all the allegations against him, Roy said: "Since I became the MLA of Alipurduar, Biswaranjan has been working against me. Few months ago, Adhir and Biswaranjan told the media that I am no one in the Congress though I am a member of the AICC. They never considered me as a Congress worker. It is quite natural that such people would demand my ouster. Let me see what happens."

The relation between Sarkar and Roy soured in 2011 when the former had aspired for a party ticket to contest from Alipurduar Assembly seat. But in the eleventh hour, the Congress leadership declared that Roy would contest from Alipurduar.
