Calcutta, Sept. 25: The railways on Friday suspended Swapan Kumar Bose, the officer in charge of Jadavpur GRP, for his “lapses” in handling the case of Atish Sen Gupta’s death.

The engineering student’s body was found along train tracks on August 30.

Besides Bose, Gauranga Kar, the deputy superintendent of the Government Railway Police, has been showcaused for dereliction of duty. Kalyan Kar Ghosh, a GRP inspector in Sonarpur, has been transferred with a recommendation for a departmental probe. An assistant sub-inspector of police Asit Kumar Ghosh has been “censured.”

The action against the four policemen has come after a probe conducted by Amar Kanti Sarkar, IG, railways, on Thursday. The probe also recommended action against Sankar Prasad Biswas, inspector of Kasba police station, for slackness.

The report has been handed over to the home secretary.
