Call it a new form of street art. The right of way of pedestrians is marked in unique patterns at four different spots of the Major Arterial Road of New Town. The first, for the Lake Town-bound commuter headed from the Sector V side, is near the Vivekananda statue and approximates more closely to the stripes of a zebra than the parallel alternate black and white stripes that are used for the purpose the world over. The second — near Gate 2 of Eco Tourism Park— is like circular ripples as it is near the park’s waterbody. The third is more like giraffe stripes. “That’s because of their proximity to a giraffe statue,” says Debashis Sen, chairman cum managing director of Hidco. The fourth is at Gate 4 Island of Eco Park. “It is shaped like shoelaces, keeping in mind the schoolchildren who would be crossing the road to reach the children’s park,” Sen explains.
