June 22: Police have introduced an online facility to apply for police clearance certificates (PCC), essential while applying for jobs or higher studies overseas.
Also, people living in the Calcutta police jurisdiction can apply online to get the background of their domestic help checked if the employee lives in Calcutta.
"The online facility will replace the existing system where people had to visit the security control office to apply for the certificate," R. Sivakumar, additional commissioner II, said.
"Now, someone living in the Calcutta police area can apply for a PCC sitting at home. That will save a lot of time."
In future, PCC would be made mandatory for drivers of app cabs, he said.
The police introduced a link named PCC on www.kolkatapolice.gov.in this evening.
A person has to first register by entering his/her mobile number on the portal.
The application would be available in future on a mobile phone app, called Bondhu (friend), which the police launched recently, officers said.
Bondhu can be downloaded on Android phones from the Google Play Store.
Vineet Goyal, additional commissioner I, said the app would provide Calcuttans a scope to register electronic general diary for theft of some specified articles, including mobile phones.
The app will have an option of checking the details of traffic cases pending against a vehicle, online payment of traffic fines and reporting a traffic violation substantiated with visual proof.
