Behrampore, Aug. 11: The Bar Council of India chairperson today said a team would visit the Aligarh Muslim University campus in Murshidabad, where students have been organising a dharna over LLB course recognition, on August 16 for an inspection of the institution and its infrastructure.
"After the inspection on August 16, we will take the final decision on August 20," said BCI chairperson and senior advocate Manan Kumar Misra.
Former and current LLB students of the AMU's Ahiran campus have been on a dharna since Tuesday evening demanding that the university seek BCI recognition for the course. Without the recognition, a person passing the LLB cannot get registration from a court.
The director of the AMU's Murshidabad campus, Badaruddoza, said that in December 2014, he had applied to the BCI for recognition. "But there has been no response," he said. "In the last week of July, I sent a letter to the BCI chairperson, with a copy to the AMU vice-chancellor, requesting them for recognition."
The Ahiran campus started the LLB course in 2010. Two batches have passed out.
President Pranab Mukherjee had taken the initiative to set up the AMU campus in Ahiran, a part of the Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency that he represented between 2004 and 2012.
