Lucknow, Aug. 8: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) authorities today said their campus plan in Murshidabad’s Jangipur would not be affected by the Bengal government’s granting a plot smaller than that promised.
“Initial hiccups are over. The dispute over land, which delayed the starting of the campus, has been sorted out. We are happy work has finally begun,” AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar said.
He said work on the campus started on August 6 and within a week, a 1km boundary wall would be built.
The Mamata Banerjee government has given 273 acres instead of the promised 288 acres.
Sources said 15 acres less was given because illegal settlers on the land could not be evicted.
