Cooch Behar, April 20: A section of students of Dinhata College blocked a road this afternoon after they were barred from appearing in the exam for not having admit cards issued by the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University.
The blockade was withdrawn after half an hour when the college authorities assured the students that necessary steps would be taken and the exam would be held on a later date.
Around 100 students studying in the first and second year of arts stream had resorted to the demonstration, alleging that they could not get the admit cards because of lapses on the part of the college and the university. Among them, 83 students were from Dinhata College.
Police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. But by then, a number of vehicles had come to halt.
Sources said that the students were supposed to download the admit cards from the varsity's website on March 31 and April 1. The students were to be informed about the cards through text messages from their respective colleges.
"There are allegations that over 100 students did not receive the text message and had no idea that the admit cards needed to be downloaded. Many of them believed that they would get the cards from the college on the first day of the exam. This led to the confusion," a teacher said.
Sadhan Kar, the principal of Dinhata College, said the problem has been taken care of in consultation with the varsity authorities.
