“They were searching for an accommodation in Cooch Behar town and visited a couple of hotels. We detained them. During the investigation, it was found that they had entered India without proper documents, including visas. That is why all of them have been arrested for
illegally entering the country,” said Cooch Behar district police chief Dyutiman Bhattacharya.

The police said the four were Javed Aminimhr, 27, Mahdi Pahange, 35, Ebrahim Derkhshanpoor, 60, and his 30-year-old daughter Elham.

“They were initially reluctant to admit that they had illegally entered India. Eventually, they admitted that they had reached here illegally,” said a police officer.

All the four Iranians were produced in a court here on Friday and remanded in police custody for five days.
