A Bhowanipore resident was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shouting “goli maaro… (shoot them)” on their way to Union home minister Amit Shah’s rally in Calcutta on Sunday, taking the number of arrests in the case to seven.

Mukesh Singh, 34, is a BJP supporter, police said. “He was identified through video footage and photographs. In the video, he is clearly seen shouting the insidious slogan,” said an officer.

Two of the three BJP men arrested on Monday were in police remand till Wednesday. They will be in judicial custody till March 6.

Sonkar, arrested on Tuesday morning, is still in police remand.

The police commissioner has issued specific instructions to look out for people using similar “instigating” remarks and slogans, an officer said.

“We have been asked to remain cautious and vigilant against anyone who raises such slogans to breach peace. Non-bailable sections would be pressed against anyone found committing this offence,” an officer said.
